Pre-Employment Medicals.

What is the purpose?

The purpose of a pre-placement health check helps to ensure that the prospective employee is medically fit to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post. Our pre-placement medicals help to assess whether the proposed post may adversely affect the prospective employee’s health in the future.

Not only do these medicals ensure the health of the prospective employee before beginning the post, this process helps to record health information as a starting point for monitoring exposure to health hazards e.g. a hearing test on an employee working in a noise hazard area.
This type of test is called a baseline test as it is establishing health levels before exposure.

What is the process?

The majority of pre-placement issues can be assessed using a standardised pre-placement questionnaire which is completed by the employee and sent directly to us for screening. Where appropriate, our Occupational Health nurse will contact the individual either by telephone or arrange a face to face assessment.

Both pre-employment health screening approaches will result in a fit-to-work report.  Clinical information will not be included unless specific consent has been obtained from the employee. This ensures employee disgretion.

We will then make Management aware of any health concerns, and provide advice where needed. This allows Management to be aware if this may affect their ability to work. We also provide comprehensive recommendations if there are any reasonable adjustments that may need to be put into place.
